Ladies’ and Gents’ Peach Cobbler

  • 2 cups peaches (sliced and peeled)
  • 2 cups sugar (divided)
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix peaches and sugar. Melt butter in 2-quart casserole dish.  In a bowl, mix 1 cup sugar, flour, baking soda, salt and milk. Pour over the melted butter (Do not stir). Place peaches on top of batter (Do not stir). Bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Batter will rise and turn brown and crisp when done.

This peach cobbler recipe comes from the South Carolina Farm Bureau. I have to admit, it’s definitely a go-to recipe to enjoy with my family in the summertime. There’s a peach farm fairly close to us that we visit sometimes to get fresh peaches for cooking, baking and enjoying.

People think Georgia is the official peach state, but actually, there are a lot of peaches grown right here in South Carolina. Here’s a quick tip: If you want to enjoy peaches that are in season, eat them in June and July!
